Another East Coast birthday. Today Lalania Thielen celebrates another trip around the sun. Like a number of other people I have had the honor to work with, Lalania stepped behind the camera a while back and is accomplished on both sides of it. Please, join me: happy birthday Lalania!

As many of you know, on both sides of the political spectrum, I am not in favor of the current administration. That said, I ask you to read the entire post. As was revealed recently at congressional hearings, 45, members of his administration, members and former members of his campaign team, and more including at least two extreme right-wing websites, Brietbart and Infowars, are under federal investigation for ties to and collusion with Russian state actors. During the time that the FBI director and head of the CIA were providing testimony, 45 even sent tweets which were complete fabrication contradictory to their statements. It’s one thing to lie. It’s another thing to get caught. It’s something altogether different to lie about what witnesses against you are saying AS THEY SAY IT. Congress is in the process of confirming a Supreme Court Justice. My personal opinion of Judge Gorsuch is that he doesn’t belong on the SCotUS. He has a history of siding with big business as well as not wishing to interpet the law – exactly what the SCotUS does. But let’s leave my personal opinion out of this one. Judge Gorsuch was on a list of potential candidates for the position that was handed to 45 at the beginning of his term. Gorsuch was brought to the attention of 45 by Leonard Leo, VP of the Federalist Society. And while most people have political standings, judges should be pretty neutral about them. While the actual existance of the club is disputed, his high school yearbook notes Neil Gorsuch was president of the student group Fascism Forever Club until he graduated in 1985 (NY Post, 02-FEB-2017). Gorsuch is also a member of the Republican National Lawyers Association, an extemely partisan group. Until the criminal investigation of 45, his administration, his campaign team, advisors, and all other entities has been resolved as far as Russian involvement and possible collusion, we should absolutely NOT confirm any position that is a lifetime appointment. I am not in favor of confirming any other positions, but if they serve at the discretion of the PotUS, they can be removed at will. And removal is something that we cannot think won’t happen. With his recent actions, 45 could be removed with the 25th Amendment: “Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.” He may be removed and charged through impeachment. 45 could face charges of treason. I urge people on both sides of this issue to contact your reps and tell them to wait on confirming Judge Gorsuch. A less than full 9 justices can hinder the court, but so far it seems only 2 cases in the one year since Judge Scalia’s passing have been split 4-4. S split decision does not set precedent and only sends it back to the lower court. If the investigation is completed and no wrongdoing is found, then 45 has that much more strength behind him. If it is found 45 or anyone around him colluded with foreign powers, and we install anyone who has a lifetime position, we don’t know if it was what we wanted or what those foreign powers wanted. Had a nice birthday yesterday and want to say thank you to the folks who sent wishes. Started off with some rain. A trip to the grocery store brought back some hometown memories when I saw bottled Dunkin’ Donuts coffee, and then confirmed some plans for Friday. In between I got messages from a lot of you, I spoke to Cathryn, skyped with Pamela, and throughout the day got a few texts as well. It was a pretty good day :-)

So two people that I’ve worked with have birthdays today. Samantha Schannon and Clesha Melody Rodriguez are both being celebrated. Samantha and I worked a couple of times when I was visiting the east coast. Samantha has moved behind the camera and now has her own studio. Clesha and I worked together a number of times when she lived in the San Francisco Bay area. She has since moved to the southwest, raised two sons, and found happiness again with a new husband. I hope you’ll all wish them Happy birthday with me.

Alejandra Campoverdi, I read with interest your piece, “I Posed for Maxim and I’m Running for Congress.” I hope more people know that it was simply a job, helped with some finances, and wasn’t anything immoral. I am a photographer and I have shot many people, mostly women, often in similar styles to Maxim. A few of these people have been recognized by our military for their honor, courage, compassion and bravery. A few have worked to help people whether volunteering or with NGOs. Some have moved on to professional careers. Some have started their own successful businesses. Some became full time models as well as Hollywood actors and singers. All have been outstanding people that I am honored to have worked with. I am in Northern California, but a number of the people have migrated to Southern California and may be in your district. I admire your views and hope the readers of my message will see for themselves if they share your ideals. For those who are reading this, Ms. Campoverdi studied at USC, then Harvard, finally receiving her Master’s Degree in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. She worked unpaid on the 2008 Obama campaign and was appointed to work in the White House, initially in the chief of staff’s office and later serving as the first ever White House deputy director of Hispanic media. http://ift.tt/2mbaKj9
